An old thought at this point, but once again I’m flabbergasted by how much more value Close Foil has over any other variation of Close Counter/Distant Counter:
Ranged natural: Tome, Staff, Bows, Dagger
Close Foil adds: Sword, Lance, Axe, Beast (Bow, Dagger overlap)
Close Foil coverage: All types except Dragonstone
Melee natural: Sword, Lance, Axe, Beast, Dragonstone
Distant Ward adds: Tome, Staff (Dragonstone overlap)
Distant Ward coverage: All types except Bow and Dagger
Distant Foil adds: Bow, Dagger (Sword, Lance, Axe, Beast overlap)
Distant Foil coverage: All types except Tome and Staff
The difference in number of occurrences of Dragonstone unit appearances compared to Bow and Dagger, Tome and Staff units is just astronomically huge. Lol IS.
Also, Close Ward has not been released yet, but theoretically:
Close Ward adds: Dragonstone (Tome, Staff overlap)
Close Ward coverage: All types except Sword, Lance, Axe, Beast
I wonder if they’ll even bother releasing this, considering how opposite the lack of value it has compared to Close Foil. All in all though, Close Foil’s multifold value over Distant variations is only exacerbated by how difficult it is to get Close Counter fodder in the first place, as compared to Distant Counter which is plentiful across the year in all permanent, seasonal, and legendary/mythic pools.
